About HOTEDD

The Heart of Texas was formerly part of the Central Texas Economic Development District (CTEDD). Following the dissolution of the Central Texas Economic Development District in 2000, there was a lack of regional economic development coordination. The many organizations, local governments, individuals, and private industry involved in economic development recognized the need for a comprehensive strategy to enhance and guide economic growth and reduce poverty in the region. This led the HOTCOG to establish an Economic Development District in 2004.

HOTEDD received recognition as an official Economic Development District by the U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration in August of 2007. The HOTEDD’s main task under this designation is to conduct and maintain the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS).

The Heart of Texas Council of Governments provides technical support, financial and administrative reporting, record keeping and membership information for the District and its committees.
