Chickasha ALDI customers were initiated with a quarter and their own shopping bag on Thursday. Part of what makes ALDI unique is the 25 cent cart rental as well as customers bagging their own groceries. Patrons may bring their own bags or purchase them from the store.

The grocery and home goods retailer held a grand opening around 8:30 a.m. though some patrons came as early at 6 a.m. ALDI's had a promotion offering gift cards to the first 100 customers in line. The parking lot began to fill shortly after the doors opened.

Chickasha City Council member, Kimberly Loggins, said it was good to see the community excited about the new store.

'It's fabulous to see the citizens of Chickasha supporting something new coming to our town.'

In addition to basics such as produce, meat, snacks and drinks, the store had pet care items, cookware and even exercise equipment in its home goods section on Thursday. There are also decorative items and bouquets of flowers for sale. Some of the more unique grocery item included a selection of about ten different kinds of vegan patties as well as mini sized bags of dry pasta for $0.25.

According to a release from ALDI's, the store carries a streamlined selection with a focus of offering the best options at the best prices.

Chickasha Mayor, Chris Mosley, said ALDI will give residents a shopping experience they often leave town to pursue.

'We have a lot of people leaving the community to go to a shop like this and now they'll be able to stay here in Chickasha. It's a moneymaker for Chickasha and it's a time saver for citizens.'
